Slimwell

The main driver for this project is to have a significant impact on the cost of well construction with minimum risk.
Our goal is to maintain the required casing size across the reservoir yet significantly reduce top hole size. This has been achieved by;
Avoiding the risk associated with downhole expansion or deformation of tubulars maintaining all the usual fluid pumping capabilities of a conventionally deployed casing string, while avoiding the high swab and surge pressures associated with small annular gaps.

For equivalent depths have higher differential pressure ratings to existing casing systems (smaller diameter until at reservoir).  And finally, encompass all the latest improvements in drilling and cementing technology.

It has coincided with some industry initiatives to use 3rd and 4th generation rigs in deepwater, however, as they can only support smaller diameter risers the technology being developed here enables a conventional number of casing strings without sacrificing final hole size across the reservoir The following bullet points summarise the products main features;

• The well is constructed as a series of liners; this offers the following advantages:
Reduced tensile loads, both at the wellhead and in the entire section being deployed;
Reduced load and storage requirements on vessel for deepwater operations;
• Flush jointed connection; piggy backing on extensive work conducted for expanded tubulars. Essential to maintain smallest annular gap, yet high tensile strength.
• Openhole underreaming; as above
• Swab and surge pressure; completely resolved by the technology developed in this project.
• Circulation while running in the hole; completely resolved by the technology developed in this project.
• Liner operation; No space for conventional liner setting systems, unique system developed in this project.
